President Xi Jinping addresses a grand gathering marking the nation's poverty alleviation accomplishments at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday. Xi announced China's "complete victory" in its fight against absolute poverty, while underlining the need for unrelenting efforts to solve the problems of unbalanced and inadequate development and narrow the gap between urban and rural areas.
Wang Xinze, professor of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, was awarded as the outstanding individual in China's poverty alleviation fight.
